White sponge like stuff on my rocks

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to the hobby and had my tank running for 6 months now. For some odd reason im getting a white spiderweb looking sponge on my rocks with holes in them. Not sure if there are critter living in them or can i remove them? Can someone please point me to the right direction? TY

It's normal for sponges to develop in a new tank.

Some people like to set up 'cryptic zones' in their sumps. A cryptic zone is an unlit or low light (semi-cryptic) area specifically for growing sponges,,, like what you have,,, for filtration.

They are fine leave them.. They are just part of the mirco fauna you want. They will come and go. I have a bunch in my sump.

A sign of good water quality. These are pineapple sponge and can be removed with tweezers and placed in your sump or toilet

As your tank ages, they’ll disappear. Usually seen in newer set ups.
