I’m not sure if my fish have ich or velvet. I made a bad call on a copper band butterfly. He was in the tank for two days and I seen spots develop. Four days later other fish got white spots. All the fish went into QT with copper for 2 weeks and now into an observation tank for 21 days all fish are happy and no white spots. Today is six weeks fallow. Last week I did a rip clean of the DT 100% new water and rinsed the sand. While is was cleaning the DT I setup a new 55 gallon tank to hold the rocks, corals and inverts. So my question is if I put one fish in the tank that had the rocks for two weeks will that tell me if I have the 76 day strand of ich? Or will that strand only be in the free swing stage at like 74 days? Is it worth the risk of moving a fish to the 55 that had the rocks with whits spot disease?

You could consider doing the "Black Molly Test" as it is very easy to see if parasites are alive and well.

Thanks I’ll give this a try. My LFS didn’t have any all black Molly’s but said these will work fine?

Any mollie would work but the solid black make it very easy to see the white spots.

Today is day 75 fallow!! All my fish have survived and are healthy. Is it a bad idea to transfer all the fish at one time back to DT?

I usually start with the most peaceful fish first and end with the most aggressive. Congrats on the QT work! Happy healthy fish are boring . . . LOL ;)

Thanks. I got rid of my aggressive fish. I was at Petco Thursday and did rescue a hippo tang badly infected with velvet hope he makes it. He is still alive today but not eating. I gave him a FW dip and Furan-2. Is there anything else I should do for him?
