Those spots do look to large to be ich, and them being in the same spot also leads away from that diagnosis. The tail damage is tough to see, but my guess it is from tussling with the other clown. Unless it gets worse, you shouldn’t have to do anything other than to keep a really close eye on both fish- something could still pop up on them at any time.
i checked on them at about 230am last night, and there were no addtl issues. they would have been in their spots to rest for the night many hours before that, so it happened at some point between 230am and 8am today, so not much time for anything to really happen. obviously, hard to say because it could have been a few things.
this particular clown had one spot like that about 4 weeks ago, but that went away after a couple days. that instance, the fish was allowing my cleaner shrimp get on him, which was odd in itself, but around the time that it went away, went back to acting normal with the shrimp.
i havent seen it now, but my wife had apparently seen the shrimp mount the clown again. i assume its probably for the same reason, so perhaps this may be where the tail damage is from? who know.
whatever the case is, i will keep an eye on it, and try to take better pictures if possible.
as far as temperment, appetite, and overall demeanor, the fish is acting normal. i just fed them a couple hours ago, and they have a normal appetite. doesnt seem to be any breathing issues, and arent going to the top unless its to eat food. they are hanging out in the same spot for most of the day, but it would resemble the act of preparing a spot for laying eggs, or just staying in their territory. not necessarily lathargic.
i have the two clowns, a bi color blenny, diamond gobby, and the cleaner shrimp. all of them are fine other than the clown, so hopefully this is nothing dire. ive checked them all with magnifyers, and dont see anything anywhere else, so fingers crossed. i just dont want to have something effect the whole tank and create a headache
