White spots on damsel's head

Can anyone tell me what this is? White spots clustered on the head, weren't there yesterday.

Hard to tell by the photo. Can you get a better photo closer up? Possibly lympho viral infection. Does it look like cotton/cauliflower growth?

They're almost spiky. Been trying to catch the fish to get him out of the tank, but so far no luck best pic I can get for now.

Few ?’s. How long you had him, recent changes in tank. Any QT or FW dip?

I guess flukes but I am not that good. @ngoodermuth is though

It's actually a brand new fish we just got yesterday. No dip or quarantine- should have I know, but we don't really have space for it. We got one more of the same type from the same tank that is fine. This one looked fine yesterday also. First new addition in probably 4 or 5 months.

The spots look more like horns or spines than cotton, and seem to be growing quickly. I think they've gotten bigger since I noticed them a few hours ago.

Can you take a pic under white lights?

I would recommend a 5min FW dip to see if whatever it is dislodges.

I think it looks like it could be something viral, or maybe bacterial. The freshwater dip isn't a bad idea, just in case it's a secondary reaction to flukes.

But, otherwise I'd try to feed him well, soaking his food in vita-chem or selcon, keep the water clean, and just keep an eye on it. If it seems like it's becoming red, or anything changes with him behavior-wise, let us know.

I would try a FW dip to rule out flukes. Otherwise I agree with @ngoodermuth.

If nothing shows on the freshwater dip and we assume it’s viral, then a low/stress-free environment and good foods are best.

If it’s bacterial, you *might* be better off putting him in a QT for observation... in case he does end up needing medication.

I don’t think it’s there yet, I’m leaning towards viral lesions... but it’s up to you since you are the one who would have to catch him twice, if you put him back in the DT and then it ends up developing into something more serious.

Freshwater dip left white particles in the water.

The spots on the head are actually looking better than yesterday.
Setting up a proper qt today.
