White spots on wrasse, help with ID

Hi, I’m looking for help with ID on the spots please. Could it be velvet or lymphocytis? I bought the wrasse Sunday there were no spots until last night, .
I’ve dealt with lymphocytis before but with spots only on the fins, not the whole body.
The fish is otherwise unaffected, eating, not hiding, not swimming in to the flow.

Maybe it’s ich but not sure. I had a black leopard wrasse that had the similar white dots but turned out it was just from the cloudy tank. If it’s ich I know other people have their own way to treat it but I find soaking food in garlic to be a easy way to cure it (if caught early).

Having just gone through this...I'm closer to velvet than ick. Humble Fish advice is the way to go.

I also lean more toward velvet with the amount of spots, size and speed of their showing up. Again, the protocol Humblefish linked is the best way to go here.

If you don't have access to acriflavine or formalin, at least do the FW dip before dosing copper in QT: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/freshwater-dip.248898/

A 5 min FW dip will remove 80-90% of the parasites and give him a fighting chance.

I don’t have copper but I have CP and also acriflavine.

The chance of success is much higher with CP. I had a Hippo tang come down with velvet and the quick copper treatment was just too much for him. My other fish (now in QT with CP) are doing fine.

Oh...I like to make a dip of RODI water and I buffer the water to 8. I did not lose a single fish to the dip by doing this. Take you time and make it perfect. I think others don't worry about the PH but I think it makes a world of difference.

^^ Agree with this, HOWEVER it can be dicey using CP on wrasses. Looks like only fairy wrasses might be safe, but even that is not for certain at this time.

This is velvet I believe, I agree with everything that’s been said so far. Treat quickly because you don’t have much time at this stage. By the time you see visible symptoms this bad on a wrasse the gills are in really bad shape.
