Help! 2 new chromis dead; one of 5 left exhibiting white strands (maybe) coming out of it's gills. I've never treated a fish for disease. I've been fish free for years. Just started up a new 120 g. Thanks in advance for your help.

Can you possibly get a picture of this? A freshwater dip would be a good first step.... see if the white strings come off with it.
Ok. I've tried to get a pic, but wasn't successful. Thought I saw a post about a worm? extruding from the gills. I think maybe they did an iodine dip, but I can't find the thread again.

As suggested by @melypr1985 perform a FW dip to see if they detach, you can also try an acriflavine bath. Pictures will be more helpful to have a closer look at it, but it looks like some sort of a parasitic worm from what you described.

Did you try the dip? What was the result? They are easy to do if you haven't yet.
The next day I couldn't see any of the strands anymore, but I did do the dip for 5 minutes. He seemed a bit happier when I returned him to the DT. I ran to my LFS and got prazipro, dosed the DT and got my eating fish some metro. Sad to say, my big Chromis didn't make it.

I'm sorry about your loss.... but did you see anything come out of the fish during the dip? That's key.
