White stuff on my fishs fins

There’s this white stuff on my new banner fish. It’s super thick and doesn’t look like bite marks. I have no idea what it is. Is it contagious?

Looks like probably lympho to me also. It almost always occurs on the edge of the fins.

No lympho is a harmless virus that the fish will keep throughout its life. It is often an indicator of poor nutrition for the fish though, and once that gets fixed the lympho will clear up. Many fish have lympho and as long as the fish is eating well and the water quality is good then it will be dormant.
It's not deadly to the fish and there is no way to treat it.

It does seem to be Lymphocystis, and that can show up at sites of fin damage (thus bite marks can cause it).

The old joke is: to treat Lymphocystis do X, Y, and Z and in two months, your fish will be cured. Actually, it just takes 6 to 10 weeks to go away on its own (grin).

It is rarely fatal, and then, only if it involves the fish's mouth, making it difficult to eat. It may spread on this fish and to other fish in the tank, but not all species are succeptable.

I have pretty good water quality, the tank is about 2 years old. I think the bannerfish just came like this but didnt notice until now. I fed last night and it ate very well so I think hell get better soon. Thanks.

My big purple tang was chasing him around the tank when I first got him. He eventually stopped and now the fish can swim around freely. It either came with the fish and developed more in my tank, or the bite marks started it. Not 100% sure what caused it. Well if yall say not to worry, then I wont. Thank you!
