So about a week ago I noticed some white stuff on the rocks at one of the tank and now I see it's spreading throughout the whole tank. I waved my hand over it - it doesn't move. I tried Googling but didn't find much.
Where the video (below) starts is where I first noticed it. There are green star polyps below that blue trigger and the white stuff looks like it's choking it out.
We started the tank in 2013. Upgraded to this 150 five years ago. Most of the rock, coral, and fish were from the original tank.
SG = 1.0256
Nitrates < 5
Magnesium = 1360
As long as I maintain the magnesium the calcium has stayed dead on so I rarely test that and just realized my calcium test kit expired 2 years ago. About to head to LFS to have them test the calcium.
I've been using Red Sea Classic salt and have a 7-stage pro RO/DI from BRS that I bought 7 months ago. I replace the filter socks religiously every 3 - 4 days, I do a 20 gallon water change most weeks, I have a giant ball of chaeto.
Everything seemed better than it's ever been and now this.
I don't know if it's related... a few weeks ago I was super gluing 2 or 3 corals that had come off their frag rocks and my husband insisted we dust baking soda on the super glue to make it "set up like concrete." I didn't think it would hurt since that's one of the components of the 2-part I've used for years (I buy magnesium chloride from BRS and use Epsom salts as the magnesium sulfate but I remember seeing a DIY that involved cooking baking soda to make it). Right after that the power head at the top of the video got this white crusty crap all over it. I had just cleaned all the powerheads in citric acid (and rinsed them off real good) so I had to clean that one again. I don't know if this is related but it seems suspect at this point.
What do you folks think? Do I need to do massive water changes? I want to nip this before it gets any worse.
Thanks!
