White Thing on Hammer

Any ideas what's on the base of my Hammer? I thought it was a sponge and let it hang out of the water about 15 minutes during the last water change, hoping it'd kill it, but it's just.. stringier now? Hammer doesn't seem to mind and is happy, but it still bothers me...

Thoughts?

Poriferan sponge. You can scrape off OUTSIDE the tank or inject with vinegar
