I am no sure if this is the correct thread, as I am not sure if this is a hitchhiker or perhaps, part of the normal play cycle.

These white things have been inside my palys for a while. I believe they were they when I got them, which was why I haven't paid them much mind. I'm still so new to this stuff, I don't know what I don't know.... and just assumed these things were suppose to be in them. I was able to suction one up and took an unclose picture of it. It almost looks like some kind of filter feeder.... Any ideas on 1) what it is and 2) what I should do about it?

(I did have to bump them a little so they'd close enough to be visible in the picture. Otherwise they're extended and growing like crazy.)

Kill those things

Palys need more light

The monty on the wall does too

I see spirorbid worms and the last pic looks like a feather duster tube or maybe a small vermetid. The palys could of just grown over them.

I thought it looked like a feather duster too. But didn’t know they could grow inside the plays.

How do I kill them?

Why do you say they need more light? They’ve probably tripled in size over the less than 2 months I’ve had them in there. And are spreading like crazy and have tons of tiny babies around the base.

The monti hasn’t been in there that long. It had a rough shipping job and started off super pale. It has brightened up very nicely.

Monti just looks brown, that’s all.

I remember having palys at the top of my tank reaching, so you might be right.

The worm things? Depends. If you can get one of those Elon Musk Underwater Flamethrowers...

Pinch them off with needlenose pliers. Put glue on them. Inject them with H2O2.

@Bleigh your corals are fine where they are, I would not suggest moving them especially since they look find and are growing. Palys do not need s ton of light. I would also not randomly kill things unless you know they are harmful as many things are really a beneficial part of your ecosystem that your trying to build. Making changes in your aquarium and moving corals just because someone suggests when your actually not having a growth or color issue can lead to undesirable effects.

+1 to the above. Some palys actually have long stalks so "reaching" absolutely does not mean your palys/zoas are stretching. I would leave things be as your montipora and palys look fine. Also, do not inject your palys to kill a vermetid with peroxide as it will kill them and I wouldn't do anything like that especially while the coral is in the tank.

$500 is totally reasonable for a flame thrower. That'll be the next thing I put on my "want for fish tank list". :)

The problem is that they're inside of the palys, so injecting them with something doesn't seem feasible, independent of what it is. I think they look most like the spirorbid worms that @Lovemyreef2015 mentioned.

Tube worm(feather) or vermitid snail

After looking up the critters ya'll described, I suspect I may have a vermetid snail on my bi-valve. I'm seeing mixed things as to whether or not they are bad. It's the hot pink thing in the picture below. I was thinking that it may have been a foot or some other body part of the bi-valve, but now I'm not sure.

Here's a picture of the Monti (it's actually more red than the camera could pick up. It's a really pretty color.) and the baby Paly's. You can see the lines of whatever it is that's growing inside of the play's in this picture a bit better too. Could "whatever it is" be in some sort of symbiotic relationship with the Paly's?

The vermetid snails produce a mucus web that will irritate corals. I think the palys just grew over them.

Does the pink thing on the bi-valve look like one of those? If so, should I try removing it? Do you think I should start a separate thread for that?

You can just put some superglue on the top of the vermetid and it should kill it. If you try to break it with needle nose pliers it might damage the bivalve.

Thanks, will do!

I noticed this early this morning before the lights came on and everything was still "sleeping". I thought it looked like a very small Christmas tree worm, as it looked like it had cilia and was potentially filter feeding. It's hard to tell in the picture. Any thoughts?

Looks like a snail. Can you put it in a container with some tank water and take some pictures?

The palys have opened up, and it's no where to be seen now. When I see it again, I'll do that. Are there any chances that I'll hurt it if it is a Christmas tree worm?
