Any idea what these white strings are? They are imbedded in the zoas as well as flowing down the back of the rock.

FYI, this video will play on a regular PC. It won’t play on my iPad. No idea how to get a mobile friendly version posted. It says it is posting the video, but just sits and spins. Here is a picture, but not nearly as good as the video.

No, pretty much stay stationary. I am thinking it is sponges. I checked them again this night after the zoas had gone to sleep and the white stuff is smothering the zoas.

Looks like the feeder of a hydroid

Here are pics while the polyps are closed. I am thinking about using hydrogen peroxide in the tank since I cannot remove the frag without destroying it.

Looks like both white sponge at the base of the zoas and long branching hydroids poking out. I don't think peroxide is going to do anything against hydroids, at least not as an in tank treatment. For that you'd need to pull out the really big guns. But the branching variety is not as super invasive as the mat forming one. Could just rip the threads off with tweezers and repeat in a few months when they reappear and bother you.

I did end up pull it from the tank and did a 10 minute hydrogen peroxide dip. We’ll see what happens.
When I did pull it, I found bubble algae as well. If nothing else, maybe the dip will kill the bubble algae.

Good call. Hydroids will probably survive though, things are almost immortal. And nice double whammy with bubble algae and hydroids on a single frag. If that was from a commercial vendor, maybe reconsider shopping there.

Lol. I won’t call out their name, but it is a very popular company that a lot of people order from. This is the second frag from there that has had bubble algae. But in their defense, the bubble algae was not showing up when the frags came.
