White tip on zoa

Anyone know what’s up with my zoas, 2 of the 5 of them and not opening at all for last 2 weeks and were covered in algae so I moved them to a higher flow area in my tank and noticed the white tips but still not opened at all

Do you have a picture with more white?

what’s your water parameters?

you may have moved them to to high of flow.
It also may be a lighting issue

So you need to bring your nitrates up. Zoas like them.
Is the light stronger where you moved them?
give them time to adjust. If they look covered in algae you may need to dip them. You can try blowing them off with a baster. You may want to dip them. H2o2 is good for removing algae.

but honestly give them a few days

Moderate light and water flow is adequate for their environmental needs
With those zero readings, are you using API test kits? Seems unusual

Add iodide to water occasionally

When moving or acclimating to new setting, place at lower half of tank and under acclimation or low light setting and ramp up slowly
You can give it G E N T L E bursts of water from a turkey baster and see if it perks them up

Check bottom of plug and assure there are no Little bugs, eggs of any sort and nudibranch(slugs) underneath.

I dipped them in revive, I been trying to drop alkalinity with water changes but no luck, yes I’m using api tester. Should I turn off my skimmer?

I have the kessil Ap9x I had the intensity at 40% I just lowered it to 20%

As much as I hate to say- API TEST kits are notorious for false readings and have let many reefers down.
I would suggest to take a good water sample to a trusted LFS that does not use API KITS and have them test the water for you and see what results they get and to compare with yours
It’s important that you have accurate numbers BEFORE making any changes

Hi! Algae on the polyps are a big problem for zoas. 50% H2O2 (regular Hydrogen Peroxide from Walgreens) 50% tank water dip for 1-2 minutes. They will fizz, don’t worry. Brush gently with a toothbrush to help the algae come off then put it back in the tank. It won’t open for 3-10 days because it has to regenerate its slime coat that was destroyed by the dip. Hopefully they’ll open back up and be good as new! Also, check your params like the lovely folks above me mentioned, as long as they’re in reef compatible levels you shouldn’t have issues

Corals will naturally take in alk, water changes without re-dosing alk will also help. As a last resort, you can dose an organic acid like white vinegar but I would recommend against that because its very easy to over correct. I would definitely try frequent water changes first

How do you check your alk? API?
As @vetteguy53081 said if all you have is API bring water to a LFS have them check it ( make sure they are not using API test kits)

I use Red Sea salt. I check the alkalinity with the Red Sea marine test kit usually 2x a week. Today the alk dropped to 11.6. Everyone around me uses the API so I’m thinking of buying the Hanna kit, I did the hydrogen peroxide today to the zoas so hoping in few days they open up
