This was put in the tank today. Any ideas why the tips would turn white so fast?

A lot of SPS's get white looking tips from new growth..i have a few montis that do that around the edge, and 2 out of 3 of my "birds nest"( i dnt know the specific names of each of them) type corals do it....pretty sure that coral looks similiar to whatever family birdsnest fits in.... im sure some1 else will chime in with a more scientific answer lol

The coral actually looks really good good luck with it. are you putting it in the grow out challange?

There's recession from the base. keep an eye on it. This is not a healthy looking coral, not sure why anyone would say so. Search STN and RTN if you're not familiar with it.

I agree with Jackson. Looks like its experiencing some shock and is starting some tissue necrosis. Keep an eye on it. If it gets worse, Google treatment for Rtn or stn

Generally white tips mean alk burn. Although some coral, monti and birdsnest, show white on the tips / edges with new growth. It's certainly not growth, because the coral does not look like it has encruste, in fact like others said I see stn/rtn at the base. Check alk levels.
