White Tree behind montipora red cap

It looks like there is some white tree looking thing growing under my montipora red cap. At first it looked like a spider web. But over the past month it has grown to look more like a tree. It's kinda in shadow, but there appears to be what looks like a see through tree trunk in the bottom right of the white looking substance. The montipora seems to be growing just fine. Any ideas what this could be?

Yeah, it’s a sponge. If it’s in an inopportune place you can use a toothbrush or similar to remove it, the free floating pieces in the water column should send it’s growth elsewhere in the tank. Sponges are desirable to in a reef system, just not necessarily right on top of corals.
 
This is actually pretty cool! Just confirming I should be ok leaving it alone?

I don't see any stress on the coral so I'm inclined to leave it alone if it isn't bad for the tank. To be honest I have no idea how it got in the tank.
 
Sponge shouldn’t affect it but cap monti is delicate
