Way back in the day, I wanted to keep a Mandarin in a 45G FOWLR. I was plagued by the problem of how to keep it fed, until my LFS gave me a culture of these things (from his Reef Tank) that looked like tiny white worm-looking things - which lived on detritus in the substrate. When I say tiny I mean tiny, they were less than 1/16" in length and not much thicker than a hair. After a couple of months to allow the (worms ?) to proliferate, I introduced the Mandarin and it thrived on them from then on. I would love to find some of those (worms ?) now, is anyone familiar with such critters ?

Those white worms grow in dirt. I raise them.

Stuff that grows in the tank would be more like pods.

Well, I just googled and found out what the worms were, they were annelid detritus worms. Now to find a reef shop which has some in a tank !

Check out spaghetti worms.
