nice tank. I agree tanks look better with a little blue but i used to be a commercial diver on the rigs. have dived all over the world , to all different depths, and never seen blue water , away seems to go greener and darker with depth

Dread to think what this would of be like 6 months ago, no long beaten GHA, wee bit of an aip issue need to tackle next

Very nice. Another Hydra owner I see!! You have some seriously happy leathers there :)

I would imagine where rigs are running there is much more turbid water than a reef. Meaning sediment, phytoplankton and other stuff in the water. I have seen what you are talking about though, Hawaii has green water areas next to Hickam AFB. It also has some much clearer/blue further down.

These tanks make me feel like I need to get some LPS. It seems like they keep their color even in all whites! What lights are you guys running?
@DMan, your whites look pretty cool. Kessil?

LPS, Zoas, RFA, Chalice and Montis still can look great without blue. I try and pick my coral to look good under both. The top 1/3 is ugly still cause I moved the top rock, as seen in the other tank, and redid to have sps only. They got angry but are slowly coloring back up. My lights are a mix of T-5, 2 white, 2 atinic and a vertex Marino blu 1/2 royal 1/2 blue led.

Is the reason for the colors of the corals looking more dual in nature, because of the natural sunlight?

from what I recall its the depth that affects reds and blues, when we tune a kessil down to heavy blue, to me that looked like right about 100 feet in the cayman islands

but snorkel up top, no I do not recall a single coral in the whole place that looked like a zeovit exhibit. varied and diverse +10, heavy on the ventalina gorgs so amazing in 96

no neon stuff, all just healthy bigtime and fish galore. we dove every end of the island gc and it was shocking. the sub ride is 100% blue like actinic outside the windows

this no blue view also highlights algae differences and imperfections/challenges in tanks the blue would normally obscure.

that tank (or at least the rocks and bio supports) has some age/coralline on the pipes etc looks sharp nice

how have you kept algae at bay so well, and did you have any prior challenges

Was doing a water change in the basement when I can across my PC lights. I installed them just for fun.

Cheaper 30g mixed reef. Haven’t purchased anything in a while as I continue my 40b/20 sump build. I have tried everything to get rid of this algae too. Looks so much worse under whites.... lol

Edit: G3 Rad Pro, with wide lenses.

Woo!! Welcome to R2R!! That's almost no fair with how clean your tank is ;)

How long has it been up and running? I think I see some diatoms which is a good sign!

Thanks! It's been up since June, been doing biweekly water changes of about 20% also have the sump all plumbed in now so everything has been doing very well!

I think I like my old windows phone better :D. Thanks for the compliment. I lost a poker star monti due to chiller failure. Hopefully my shallow sticks will adapt to 30 degree celcius temperature :(
