Just wanna who’s paying these prices and why? Unfortunately when you do so, you justify sellers pricing this high and that’s when prices on everything get out of control. Especially for torches. This is actually laughable to certain degree. I don’t care about the color or rarity…this is just stupid.

Collection has stopped in the region where this sort of stuff is collected. It wasn't so long ago that mushrooms were as looked down upon as Xenia, Kenya tree, and GSP.

People are buying mushrooms who have developed bubbling tissues as a stress response to over lighting as something something bounce.

I had bounce mushrooms before or around the time "OG bounce mushrooms" were starting and I was posting threads trying to figure out TF I was doing wrong that my mushrooms were bubbling up. I could have been "pet rock" ING
the whole thing and calling them bounce whatever.

It's almost as bad as people selling ______ doodle dogs as anything but a roll of the dice mutts for exorbitant prices. People are dumb enough to pay the mark up which only encourages people to "breed" more marked up mutts.

I'm going to jump in here and ask.....How do we know this coral was even available for sale? How do we know this wasn't a false sale? Couldn't the vendors be manipulating the market by posting this kind of crap to make you think people are willing to pay these prices?. If a vendor can make people think a torch sold for 2K, wouldn't someone be more apt to buy said coral when the vendor actually posts one for 1,500?

Hahahah that’s hilarious. I work with dogs and couldn’t say it any better I know a Breeder who continuously sells her “Aussie doodles” for like 5-7k or more. People are always up in her comments like “when can I buy??!!” She even has a wait list. It’s ridiculous.
Not me! That is why I am waiting. Hopefully this crash will bring prices back down!
crash?

Well vendors are popping up because they watch these sales and go wow I can do this . Theres one vendor that literally just sells torches. Someone always knows someone that can get access to a wholesaler then gives him 3k and buys every euphyllia they can. They put them in like a 100 gallon low boy and they're a vendor now !!

I’ve never understood how what was once called a mixed breed mutt is now a high end designer “hybrid dog “ which cost more than a pure bred with papers from a certified breeder .

Coral is beyond insane. It's happening in a lot of places though. There are enough people with enough money, and very little sense as to how to spend it, that they will pay anything for pretty much anything. Their lack of discernment about the relative value of things drives prices up. It has nothing to do with real supply and demand. It's just over-spending because you can. Corals prices were going to go up with the lack of supply, but it's out of control. I have some sympathy for aquaculturists because they have a lot of overhead, but I see prices on some things and I'm just in disbelief.

How awesome would it be to have $2k to spend on leisure items? Having said that, the stress of a $2k coral in my tank would kill me long before the coral died of something!! Even if I had the money I'm sure I still wouldn't buy it. I have enough stress in my life. LOL

Yeah it’s really unfortunate. Because they ruin it for the rest of us. Some other girl was on offerup tryna sell me a plain green tip torch for $250 lol like I literally seen those at stores for $60 so from a hobbyist I expect a better price than $60

I am pretty happy with the community (large part of it) is understanding they are being played. We need posts like to to help some people understand, they are damaging the real markets.
A lot of torches are now flooding the market and not being bought at 1k a head. Some are down to 500. While hellfire is getting to 100 and below. I have seen a guy selling a master torch, I don't recall how many heads. But it was 2 or 3 at 500 or 800.

I see it as corals are no different then any other consumer product that we all can buy or not buy.
As consumers we make the choice to buy or not and we make the choice if we buy, who or what company we will buy from. We also have the choice to choose which brand we will or will not buy...Kinda like which coffee to buy, make it at home, dunkin, starbucks, etc...or which car to buy etc... as so I look at this reef hobby/industry the same way. Which equipment do I want to buy or not etc...I feel it all comes down to what a person wants to buy and what they are willing to pay for it. Add on top of that everyone has their own views and their own spending budget.
ahh my coffee is done brewing......
