I picked up this hammer at a local frag swap 2 weeks ago. I noticed this little fella the other day as I was taking some photos. The majority of answers so far have been some type of dendro or cup coral, with a few ball anemone. Figured I’d try asking here next to see what people thought. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Not a ball anemone and probably not a cup coral. The tentacles look very "aiptasia - ish" from here... might want to remove it.

It’s definitely not aiptasia. I’ve dealt with my fair share of it, even intentionally growing it for berghia to eat. I’ve never seen an aiptasia with an orange base like that, or the tentacles to be clear with speckles.

I’ve never seen an aiptasia with an orange base like that, or the tentacles to be clear with speckles.

I have seen an unidentified anemone with orange base and clear speckled tentacles, but the mouth/area around the mouth is different than yours.

That said, I agree that it's not a ball nem (it doesn't have the ball-shaped tips on the tentacles); I can't say for sure on the coral ID guesses at this point (that's not a strong point of mine yet), but they don't seem completely unreasonable.

Personally, I'd probably pull this one off the coral and move it somewhere you can easily contain any spreading just in case, then see what it grows into/if it has a skeleton or not.

The nem mentioned above:

I have started to see these little anemones pop up, i dont think they are the standard aptasia… They have a foot that looks like a little mushroom when the tentacles are not fully extended. Any ideas? @vetteguy53081

Best way to remove it? I have a scalpel as well as a small rotary tool. My only concern is damaging the skeleton of the otherwise healthy hammer.

I'm not sure honestly. I'd probably try the scalpel myself, but hopefully others with more coral knowledge/experience will comment for you here.
