looking for more feedback about MSX skimmers.. I've been reading about them lately and have found that most people like their MSX skimmers... only a few problems I've seen, mostly the start up issues with the mesh impeller, which I have... LoLz... although I've not had much problems with it starting... I do plan on switching into a pinwheel soon... I have played with it a little bit but I do plan on fine tuning it for my tank's conditions once I get some livestock in there... :)

anyway, here's what mine is doing after 2 days of setting up the tank... ;)

any input or pics are appreciated...

Thanks in advance...

I have been using the 160 in my 75 and it works great never try the mesh cause of the start up problems. Plus i like how the pin wheel works so why bother
I skimm wet with this skimmer
Also looking at your pic why is it so brown in the bottom?
It looks like mud
Have you ever clean the base

ooohhhhh and I forgot iam going to pick up my alph 200 today I will just rotate my skimmers

I love mine. I won't by anything else after having it.

The startup issue is easily fixed by trimming the mesh so it is "even and balanced". The sicce pump is great.

yeah, I plan on skimming a little wet as well... the dirt on the base was from the first night... the dirt is from the sand I put in the first day of set up... I plan on cleaning it again before I transfer my livestock... :)

sounds good man... Thanks... :)

I'm running the SWC cone skimmer and I've been having some issues with it. I just cant seem to get it dialed in. It just keeps running over. If I close it that just makes it worse.

The water level is probably too high in your sump. Try lifting it up an inch or two with some egg crate or plexi and see what happens.

I got a MSX 200 right after they come out. At first had few problems but now that the bugs have been worked out its a great skimmer. They addressed the problems that the 1st one had and fixed them. Mine didnt come with a pinwheel so dont know how it works with one. I trim the mesh so I dont have start up problems. The 1st mesh lasted a little over a yr before I remeshed it.

With the mesh mod - it is about 3x as efficient and pulls in a lot more air. By buddy tested it with a cfm thing or whatever.

yeah but then if power goes out it doesnt start and im not home it will be a problem
at least for me
I know the mesh mod works but why bother if it still a great skimmer with the pinwheel

Even do I got my new Vertex Alpha 200 hooked up today
I will put the MSX 160 in my 40 breeder

I did that already a few days ago. Still getting the same thing. So I've just been letting it run open.
