When I bought my current house it had a cutout for an in-wall tank that is a very unique size, hasn't been mass produced for over a decade. Took me months to find the current one I have. When I was looking to have one made everyone was quoting me $10k+ for the tank. Anyway another has come up for sale locally and I am debating buying it to have as a backup. So to the question... How many of you guys have a backup tank? Was it worth it?

I have backup "tanks" in the sense I have immediate available storage for water, coral, and fish. It would be a mess, but it would allow me time to replace a display.

What kind of size are you working with? To me, it would depend on the quality of the used tank and how good of a deal it was. Might be worth it, but might not.

Im sure most have quanrtine tanks.. but i have a 30g salt water tank im turning into a reef as well so either my 60g hex or 30g csn acts as a backup tank if i want.. i split corals betwern the two so both are essentually the same

What I mean is how many people have a backup display tank? Not makeshift tanks that can get you by while you replace the DT.

I only think people would have spare nanos

My 30g is a display tank... so is my 60g.. is 30g not big enough to be a display tank lol or does it need to be 400 gallons.. not everyone has huge tanks..my biggest is 135 gallons but its for my discus my 92g is for my angels and jack dempsy

Jut seemed like you had multiple running tanks, not necessarily a backup tank.

Silicone eventually does fail. Things happen. I was thinking of having an identical tank sitting for that time might be worthwhile, might make the process a lot easier. Then can get the original one fixed (if possible) and store it as a back up.

How well does silicone hold up if stored dry?
