Who has replaced their skimmer with alternate methods?

What are your long term results? I have always had issues running too clean with unreadable N and P. I am considering turning my skimmer off and using it as a ”just in case” backup while controlling nutrients with my ATS and filter socks and DOC with My carbon reactor. thoughts?

No skimmer = lower pH bc the water isn't as oxygenated.

Well oxygenated water = high pH and growing corals

Not as well oxygenated water = lower pH = stunted coral growth (lost opportunity to grow)

How about skimming lighter for O2 exchange and turning off your carbon reactor for awhile?

has this been documented? I have heard arguments that the amount of oxygen added by the skimmer is negligible. I have massive amounts of surface flow in my displaY. The skimmer air intake is just a 1/4 hose.
