Just asking since I'm thinking about getting some sun corals when I setup a bigger tank what have been your experiences with them?

Well firstly they’re gonna come out at night, so train them to open during the day time it’s easier... and feed consistently ! Doesn’t have to be everyday actually too much feeding can lead to gut rot so be careful !

Because the polyps dont share nutrients through the body, each polyp has to be fed individually. They need regular frequent feeding. This can lead to a spike in nutrients. Some reefers remove them from the tank to feed every couple of days. I leave mine in the tank but it is hard to feed 50 polyps without all the other critters attacking the food and stealing it.
Cheers! Mark

How much flow do you have yours under ? I'm planning to mount mine upside-down in an overhang to avoid tissue recession from any sedimentation.

How do you train them to come out during the day?

There's a trick to do so by squirting food juice near them around the time you feed

Yeah basically I separated them when my lights turned on and tried to feed in a separate container and they got used to food coming during the day

Feeding it in the overhang shouldn't be too much a problem since most likely i will mount it vertically and let it climb to the roof it it wants to. as for feeding every polyp I'm not to sure if every polyp needs to be fed as long as the colony eats enough and the connective tissue remains intact.

Honestly i think that may be the big caveat to a lot of the nps corals is feeding enough and how often.

though that may not be 100% i think that makes enough sense that they share some nutrition but often there is just not enough to go around.

Are there LPS that share nutrients between polyps?? Or even SPS?
Meaning, if I feed one polyp, some of the nutrients will be shared with another polyp next to it?

I always thought each polyp was an individual animal?????

wow...

My logic here is that if there is a mat underneath they should be sharing some nutrients but obviously these guys eat a lot more than some of the smaller guys.

found this too btw
