My SCA302 cup would get nasty after a week. I may have some old pics. That skimmer worked great and pulled out nasty dark brown sludge no matter what. My RO 150SSS does ok so far but my bio load is very light for it currently.

Mine looks sorta similar to SaltyHog's... and yes, smells worse.

My wife always asks me what the he(ck) I've been doing in her kitchen when I clean the skimmer cup.

I don't know why mine doesn't smell up the room. It's in the stand but I can't smell it unless I open the doors on that side of the tank.

Not me, I clean them out twice a week.

Odd thing though - the scum that collects has a different character for different tanks. The skimmate from the mostly SPS tank is soft and washes off easily. The skimmate from the tank with lots of anemones is thick, tenacious and slippery, and requires more scrubbing to remove. Same model skimmer in both systems.

Yeah.. I dont have nasty skimmer cups like you guys. But the Tunze I am running has the worst smelling skimmate I have ever smelled. Beats vertex hands down for bad smells!

What?! In the kitchen? I would be dead.....cleaning my skimmer cup is usually an outdoor activity but in the dead of winter I do it in the fish room.
