Who has their entire drain dump into a refugium?

My previous system had the main drain go into a roughly 5 gallon tank with mangroves in it. The roots had algae growing on them and tons of pods. My snails would often dissappear in there for months. Because of the way it drained from there, when there was a power outage the water would drop to about an inch, and that caused the mangroves to develop giant air roots which was kind of cool.
