Who here is using the alkatronic?

I just recently bought an apex, and that’s because I was drawn to the trident for automatic testing. Now I have not purchased a trident, because I read that they are coming out with a mastertronic to test other parameters.

Are these units from focustronic compatible with an Apex?
Not sure about the mastertronic but the alkatronic can connect to the apex through the pH probe and display dKH.

I've had one for around a year or so, love it. I liked it enough to buy the Dosetronic to dose based on the Alkatronic's readings. Reagent is fairly inexpensive and close to free if you DIY. I haven't replaced any parts yet, everything still works great testing 8 times a day.

The only thing I'd change about it is the sound, it's the loudest piece of equipment on the tank. It's much quiter with the new firmware and quiet kit, but I still hear it if I'm in the room and it's testing. It's quiet enough where I don't need to change the TV or conference call volume, but it's definitely not silent.
How do you make DIY reagent??

Also interested getting the tester and DYI reagent if it’s easy. I sold my trident as COVID had supply low and almost impossible to buy when needed and had quite a few issues with it and the cheap build quality. Leaking water and dumping all my reagent into the waste container. Got it fixed and gone I hope this unit is a lot better at $900.

The whole thing with keeping the reagent proprietary doesn't make good sense to the hobbyist.

DIY reagent for alkatronic and KH director is pretty straight forward. I've settled on making my own reagent as well. Super easy.

Can you link the DYI reagent formula I’m prob going to order one today want to make sure I can make it.

I have the alkatronic conduct a test every 4 hours and this 4 liter bottle will last over a year.

It's the exact solution focustronic uses. You dilute it 4 parts RODI to 1 Part acid.

Agree. I have been using 1M HCl and diluting. 100 ml of acid will make 5L of solution.
