I began reading Randy Holmes articles on ozone today just wanting to understand what ozone is and if/how it benefits our systems. There are some complexities to the subject, and I am curious why you use ozone and how you feel it benefits your aquarium:)

I run ozone on all 3 of my tanks. All 3 use Octopus reactors, 2 Octopus generators(one broke after 3 months, waiting on Coralvue to fix/replace), 1 Ozotech generator.
Water clarity improved dramatically, almost like the fish are floating on air. Skimmer production stepped up a notch as well. Skimmers are a Vertex Alpha and two Bubble Kings that always produced impressive skimmate. The waste produced after the addition of ozone is a whole nother realm of nasty. After a couple weeks of use the film algae growing on the glass has pretty much stopped.

Not going to lie and say that I fully understand what all ozone does but I'm a fan.

wow that is all very intresting... so from what i can gather from your pictures is you have a water pump that draws water from the system through some type of filter into a ozone generator and through a reactor and finally a effluent chamber? is this the "proper" way to introduce ozone into the system. that set up looks expensive! How much did all that cost you if you dont mind me asking...

I use a ozotech Poseiden ozone generator with avast marine ozone reactor. It's on a controller it only comes on when my orp drops..,which is hardly ever.

Has anyone heard of just buying the bottled ozone and have it leach into your air intake on a protein skimmer? I was reading an article that was on facebook and this expert aquarist (25 years in the hobby) said that he recently did this about three months ago and he found the same results as Bob Loblaw. He also stated that his skimmer's water level had to dialed down because it was running to effectively that he had no nitrates, so his water too clean. This would be great for SPS only tank, but he keeps LPS as well, so that is why he dialed it down. Thoughts?

Do you have a link on this? Would love to read up in it

Trying to find it now. Digging through a month of Facebook news feed. Great right up as well. About 8 pages of info and experience.

Mag 5s pumps water into the Octo reactor, at the same time a luft pump forces air through the ozone generator and pushes ozone into the reactor where it comes into contact with the water, O3 cleaned water is pumped back into tank.

The Octopus setup is cheaper than the Ozotech setup but the Ozotech is much nicer. I got all of my equip from Bulk Reef Supply and Premium Aquatics.

Never heard of bottled O3 but the generator can be hooked up directly to most skimmers. It's not as efficient as a reactor and given the highly destructive nature of O3, I never felt comfortable pumping it into a high dollar skimmer.
