Hi Everyone,

If you know me by now, you probably realize that I'm somewhat obsessed with water changes! I personally feel that regular water changes with quality prepared saltwater are the best "additive" you can use for your reefs!

I'm updating one of my presentations ("Nutrient Control and Export") for an upcoming event, and I wanted to get some feedback from my fellow reef geeks. I gave this talk at MACNA in Des Moines, and it was interesting to see the variations in answers to this question!

How often do you change your water, and in what percentage?

Thanks!

Oh, and here's a gratuitous coral shot for your pleasure! Don't forget to check the UC site for our next livestock update, coming around 7PM ET tonight!

My tank is 70 gallon, but the water volume on the tank is approx 60 gallon (including the sump) maybe because of the sand and the rocks. I knew this because I used 5 gallon jugs to filled the tank for the first time (I miss the gym because of that...so need to exercise somehow...LOL)...I'll do 10 gallon water change every other week. Just to make sure all good nutrient is replenish...

I have two Nanos right now and I change approximately 10% weekly. Going to be doing another water change tonight or tomorrow.

I just mixed 500g of fresh saltwater for some water changes ;)

25% wc every week. It's my Saturday morning routine. Takes about 20 minutes on my 125g DT.

5% weekly

I used to do 2.5% twice a week when feeding heavily and before skimmer.
