Who knows Vlamingi Tangs?

I everybody! I have a juvenile Vlamingi Tang in my tank. I have had a few fish die recently (some of which were in the tank before VT) and I thought it was the VT killing them, although I never saw anything bad. After those fish died (2 weeks later) I had a parasite in the tank that killed my 2 clown fish - that parasite very clearly visible on the clowns. Im still concerned about the VT - is it possibly both him and unrelated something else that killed my other fish?

Short Question is: who knows about VT's? Are they aggressive to the point of killing other fish in the tank, and I do not mean other tangs? Do I need to get rid of him if I want to add new fish?

I've had Vlamingi Tangs before and in my experience they're extremely friendly and one of the toughest fish I ever owned. I doubt he bullied your other fish to death unless he's an exception to the norm.

It seems likely that he could've hosted a parasite of some sort and carried it to your fish if it wasn't quarantined. Maybe you should take your remaining fish out and treat with copper and prazipro in case of flukes.

I have one in my 220. he is about 13" and a big puppy dog, nevers bothers any of the tank mates and even lets me pet him.

powder blue tang
hippo tang
mandarin
maroon clown
occy clown
chromis
damsels
midas blennie


i am guessing a parasite came in with him or it is a coincidence

just wondering what size tank you have him in. not being the tang police. but my 220 is looking kinda small for him, and i will be upgrading even bigger just to accomodate him

if you think he is causing problems and your tank is smaller, you might want to get him oit of there now[

Have heard they get massive. LA has their min tank rating at 360 gallons

We have a couple here in your display tanks & they are very friendly with pretty blue liips. When we put our hand in there they love being pet. I have not seen any of them pick on any other fishes. They are very nosy and love to check out new corals in the tank & as soon as they see algae they will rip it all apart! very lovely.

my mingi loves to be petted and when i put new stuff in the tank she rubs on my hand like a puppy. Mikey wishes he was my vlamingi tang lol
