Anybody ever mess around with the difference between leaving moonlights on all night or turning them off for some time?
I've had my reef up for about 9 months and it's all sps and always left moonlights on all night. Then the other day I turned them off and noticed some crazy poly extension on my sps. Is it better to blackout the tank for a bit everynight?

I leave mine on 24/7. Can't notice anything when day lights are on. I feel like the polyp extension is a bit better with moonlights on... but maybe its because I can see everything a bit better.

I bought some cheap LED lights from current USA that I covered with painters tape the blacked them out. They create just enough light to see the outline of rocks and sand. They are much dimmer than the moonlight function on the kessil light I have and I like it better than the built in moonlight. Those stay on all night long. My coral poly extend all night. That's usually when I feed them too.

These are before and after pictures of my coral. The second picture is the polyp extension when the lights were completely off as opposed to the moonlights

My moon lights go off around midnight and back on at 9 AM. I have a night light plugged into a wall in the fish room to make it so the fish are not in complete black and can get scared and jump.
