So I have been reading around and see endless threads on making overflows quiet or making water flow quiet or whatever. Personally the sounds of my pump running or water drainage or my tank operating in general relaxes me. I have ringing in my ears from gun fire and loud noises in general and the sounds of the tank tuning covers that up. Anyone else like it loud? I'm not talking extreme can't hear yourself think loud but I like the noise .

I like hearing it but my overflow is too loud to enjoy lol. I can now sleep with it right there but its not enjoyable to sit in my room and hear it, going to be making a silencer soon, but modify it to be quiter instead of silent

Does your o.f. Have a vent ? If so try stuffing some sponge in there it'll let it breathe without making it air tight

Yeah it does have a vent and I notice when I put my finger over it it becomes way quiter. What is the purpose of the vent anyway?

Same reason here, the water sound helps my tinnitus. But my tank doesn't make any noise unless it's low.

I like being able to hear my pumps running for my return and skimmer but random dripping noises or splashing generally make me very worried. For that reason I like quiet overflows. I can understand how the sound would help with your tinnitus though.

We usually have fans running that takes care of the ringing, but I really enjoy the sound of the water running through the bottom of the overflow. I made some changes and now my tank is much quieter. I miss it.

Also, now that I run a silent DC pump, I can't tell if its on or off without looking. When I could hear it, I would wake up whenever there was a change in the sound or if it stopped.

My tank is rather quiet, as everything is in the basement. Everyday I'm down there checking everything out.

Does sleeping with a fan on count? White noise helps me sleep and thank god the wife is okay with that. Lol

Brakes the syphon so you don't drain the tank. I have mine turned down into the water with a sponge in it so it still sucks water till the lvl gets down to where the vent pipe hits the surface. . It sounds cool to me like the tank is breathing

Tried to add a video with sound but don't know how with my iPhone...

Mine is in my bedroom so too loud is a problem but I live in NYC so a little noise is like white noise

I like a little noise. It's too quiet in my place so it breaks the silence. The only noise I hear is the skimmer at night (it only runs at night), and the sound of the drain flowing into the sump. It is relaxing to hear. it's not loud at all, just enough to break the silence

Plus if I stop hearing something, I know something's wrong with the tank and I need to check it out too

Yeah the second part is why I like my tank right at the foot of my bed. If we lose power the really loud backsiphoning wakes me right away and I hop up and make sure everything is okay once the generator comes on.

On one hand, I don't like the overly noisy aquariums, with loud skimmers, pumps & wavemakers buzzing, solenoids/timers clicking, and whatever else there is.
On the other, I do enjoy hearing the water running in the aquariums. My screensaver at work is an ocean scene that plays ocean sounds.
I have Meniere's disease (vertigo, hearing loss, bad tinnitus, etc) and the subtle water sounds of the aquariums help out tremendously !
