Alright, I have determined that a great deal of the noise my system produces, and thereby PO's the wife, comes from the Sedra 5000 pump on my ASM G3. I have to admit, it sounds like a washing machine. If she's sick of it, then I have to be sick of it. I know alot of folks started off with ASM's because they work OK and are relatively inexpensive. However, it's time to upgrade, and quiet down, this system. Suggestions anyone? Thanks.

you can check out ATB, Bubble King.
ASM Sedra pump make noise because dirty pump, something stuck inside. You can clean and check for snail shell, and broken impeller.

The quietest skimmer I know of is my Vertex Alpha 250 Cone, built by Royal Exclusiv. You wouldn't even know it is on if you didn't see the bubbles inside it.

I would go ATB they are quiet and you can't beat Victor

Well I have owned quite a few and all listed here. The top ones are pretty quiet. But the bk mini is the quietest skimmer I have used yet to date. THe pump is inside the thick outer acrylic and uses soft rubber feet. Also has a foam lined muffler. You will not hear it start.

Th ATBs are nice and quiet. And Victor is the bomb. But I have to be honest. The BK mini is the most quiet skimmer I have owned. I have had both the 160 and gen 2 180.

Really anything with askoll motorblock is going to run quiet. There's quite a few out there with this pump now. Its the quietest on the market.

I agree, but when you add that to the inside of a body you muffle and noise even more. Plus it has really thick material the adds that much more to the sound deadening. combine that with the material in the muffler you get the best all the way around for the most quiet skimmer on the market.

I agree the atb is a very well balanced skimmer. But the Thread wants the quietest and so I do not have a Db meter but I can tell you from running the ATb's , bk's vertex's and most other popular skimmers out that if you want the very most quiet skimmer out there the BK mini is the one you one.

I know this is low tech compared to all the cones, but my AquaC 180 was the quietest skimmer I've owned. Even it's return was a gentle waterfall with no bubbles or noise. I ran it on a 100 gal heavily stocked Rubbermaid stock tank while waiting for a rebuild. Great skimmer and quiet.

If the question was redefined as, "which skimmer pump is the quietest?" I would agree with Luke. It has to be the Askoll based pumps. BK, ATB, SWC all have whisper quiet versions of it. I've run the different brands next to each other. They are all equally quiet. The best in the business

mojo is right once it is in underneth the stand you probably won't hear any of these skimmer's

now lets ask mojo what's his overall favorite skimmer including CS,Value, noise, efficiancy;)

IMO
I have both Vertex cone 200 and Vertex In-100 and they both are silent and perform sweet
plus the vertex In is cheap

The Bk mini that I said was the quietest uses a red dragon pump which is the askoll 1500 motor block.

The next quietest pump I would say is a tunze hydrofoamer.

Now there are many skimmers that are quiet but when you have owned them all you start splitting hairs on the fine details that separate them apart from each other.

I have ran the atb next to bk mini, the atb next a alpha, next to a WM k2 ect... Not many can say that. Trust me.

Now I didnt say it was the best performing skimmer although these skimmers are really nice and do skim well.

Who cares if it's quiet, as long as it works. :)

I used to have an MR-6R. You could hear this thing anywhere in the house. We called my fish room a boiler room it was so loud. It worked great for my application though.
