Who makes the quietest1HP chiller?

Im in the market for a new 1HP, 120v chiller. Mine is now really old and rattling to death.

Can anyone recommend a reasonably quiet unit?

There aren't many options now but one thing I would check is the chilling capacity not just the horsepower. Some chillers use a high-quality refrigerant which lets them chill more at lower power consumption. I know the Teco tank chillers can typically chill far more for their size than other brands due to the refrigerant. I bet you will get a noise reduction if you can go with a 3/4 HP or 1/2 HP rather than a 1HP

Nobody has a quiet unit. They all have fans and compressors. Put them outside if you can - not only is this good for noise, it also gets heat out of the room/home.

How exactly do you rate "chill more for their size"? HP is a direct measure of cooling capacity. 1 hp = 745watts = 12,000 BTU of cooling.

I want to keep the HP the same because its on a 850g system with six 400w halides and nearly 3000w of LED. And I also dont want the unit running constantly.

I simply want to know what brand is usually quieter.

EcoPlus are about the quietest that I have heard - about like a good mini split. You can hear the fan and the compressor turning. No idea how they perform.

I will admit that I am no expert but it is simply not true that some chillers are not more efficient than others. 745 watts with the highest quality freon and DC powered fans is not the same as 745 watts with low quality freon and high energy consumption fans. We all know when buying a home AC that the seer rating determines how energy efficient the AC unit is.

It is not simply a matter of X amount of watts can cool the tank X number of degrees. The chiller design does matter. Chillers that are more energy efficient will almost certainly be quieter. They might save you money on your power bill as well.

Ok let me simplify the problem for you..... I have a 1hp chiller and want to replace it in kind. I just want to know who makes a decently quiet one.

1 HP is a very large chiller, so I’d imagine there aren’t many people on the boards that use one. About the biggest I ever used was 3/4 HP and Tradewinds was my hands down favorite. I had it set up outside, so noise was not a big issue for me. Tradewinds unit was not quiet, but it was quieter than my prior model (don’t know that I recall brand though). Tradewinds model also lasted longer than its predecessors. Cover screws do work themselves loose, so keeping them torqued down helps to mitigate rattles.
