who runs carbon and which brand??

need an advise on this which brand too use??

I have never run carbon. and now they are saying the little particles that get in your tank will kill tangs and other critters in the tank
imo not a good idea

I just added a carbon reactor yesterday, i use the same stuff as jeppun, so clean. 1.5 Pounds- Half Gallon Premium ROX 0.8 Aquarium Carbon - English

I use Chemipure Elite and it works well... But I am thinking of changing and making my own bags since it is pretty expensive to change it every month...

I run carbon that I use from brs. Works great in my opinion and I have never had an issue with it.

I use it (BRS Rox 8) and you may have success with or without it. Not everything on the internet is Gospel or a goldeb set of rules.

I feel it does what I want it to do for me so I will continue to use it.

Carbon has been linked to causing HLLE in Tangs specifically. but it is definitely not proven. And the testing they were doing they using really low quality carbon, and it was also because of too much grinding of the carbon and the dust and fines being released into the system.

The carbon that has been linked from BRS already as Rox, is the best available for us hobbyist IMO. Here is a great video to see the differences:

I have used carbon in all my tanks for as long as I have been in the hobby. I have only had positive results using it. In a reef tank, there is not only the issue of wanting to make your water crystal clear, but there is also chemical warfare going on a different times from your corals. Which carbon is perfect for.

I remember reading that some where, it causes something in the gills and eyes that can kill them. But they did three trials one with cleaned carbon, one cleaned lightly and one not cleaned at all. By cleaned I mean Rinsed. The only one that caused issues was the uncleaned and I can see why, I run threw 5-10G of Ro/DI water to clean it out. the first one two gallons is dark black Im sure if I let that in my tank it would be bad. I see no negative effect only positives if it is used properly. IE

1) Wash it properly
2) Like anything on my tank I hate to skimp. Save up another month to buy bulk because it's cheaper or split it with some one 99% of the time, cheap items gives cheap results
3) Pack it well in the Rex, you want zero tumbling so it doesn't turn it to dust
4) change it every 3-4 weeks
5) Run it threw a rex I prefer, I have never personally used it in a back but dislike the thought.
6) you also don't want virtually any flow but you want good contact time between water and carbon.

I also use the BrightWell Carbon.

I use it sometimes like when my nem's expel waste or things like that but I rarely ever use it, and I use deep blue professional and I use 1 ounce per gallon seems to work nice when I use it.

I run it also. I have read the articles as well but am not convinced that running carbon is detrimental. I rinse it and also run the return line from the reactor to my sock to catch anything I may have missed
