i hve a little hair algae problem.....
my water parameters r fine and every thing is not disturbed and growing good....just side of the tank got sme hair algae thats keep growing slowly by slowly...i do brush the rock every week for about couple minutes to the point where u cant see it but it keeps coming back...
my display is about 60 gln and it is overstocked by various lps....i only have 2 small fishes in it and i only feed em very little once a day..i donot feed my corals....my phosphates r around .03 and nitrated i like to keep em around 20....MH r only on for about 7 hrs/day....

i came across this brs gfo reactor at lfs yesterday small and compact.....
i need to know if i need to run gfo...
do people run gfo all the time whether or whether they hve any problem...
what exactly does gfo do???

I run GFO 24/7. GFO is a phosphate absorbing media and it will help prevent/stunt algae growth. High phosphates will also stunt the growth of SPS and affect coloration of corals, so IMO it's something that is a good idea to run on any SPS tank.

I also run GFO in my little fishes reactor. But I will be placing another order with BRS and getting a larger reactor. Funny thing every time I checked my phos they were always on the low side less than 0.1. But others has said what algae you have are eating the phos in tank resulting in the low number. Now with the GFO my reading is 0.05. My algae has stopped streading. Its been 3 weeks now I am waiting for what algae is in there to disappear.

I had hair algae when I first set up. I bought the BRS dual reactor and I run GFO and carbon. Cleared up the hair algae in about 2 weeks.

Sorry to high jack but I was thinking of frying that dual canister. Do you have any isues with water pressure.

I run it 24/7 myself... At one point I didn't when I was vodka dosing aggresivly but I backed off the vodka and put the Gfo back online.... Rawaphos to be exact...

BRS has video on same on their site. Check it out. Also check out Mrsaltwater site. He had a friend with simular issue and added GFO reactor and showed results..Good luck.

I don't use GFO on my tank as it is known to trigger pinched mantle in clams and I have too many rare clams to chance it. I use Seachem's Phosguard as it is aluminum based and doesn't have any effect on clams.
