I am currently replacing my Waveline DC10000ii with a Neptune COR 20. My return pump is in very small sump chamber and there was not room to run a strainer on the Waveline; however, I see some 3D printed strainers for the COR that might fit. Not using a strainer never bit me in the butt before, but I always assume the worst is coming in reefing. So who runs 'em? And who thinks they're a big waste of time?

I have, but dont need too any more.
Reasons:
My sump has filter socks.
It has no fuge.
It has basket of rock and cryptic sponges where the fuge would be.
There is an aqua mat, as brs calls them, before the return chamber.
My external skimmer dumps into a filter sock.

I use them, even with socks... just a little more security, there is a k1 kaldness bio ball currently stuck to the intake of my RD pump, not sure how that got there.

Always! Mostly make my own out of gutter guard. Always a chance of the pump ingesting something it shouldn’t.

I plan to use one as well in the new tank.
