Who uses a Beckett Skimmers?

Like the title states, who's using them and why do you like them?

I used one for many, many years, and loved it. That thing could skim!! But power consumption was high (not good here in socal), and cleaning the becketts was a bit annoying/frequent, mostly due to stomatella shells.

As time has gone on, needle wheel type pumps are much better in both design and quality than they were back when I bought my beckett, use much less power, and require slightly less frequent cleaning, so I switched.

Dimensions may also be a factor. With becketts you generally go taller, while needle wheels you go wider.

It is a bashsea 8*24. After searching for a skimmer I ended with Beckett as I could hard line it to my return pump, a panworld PS 250. It seems they require more flow, but once adjusted in it does a great job.

I would add, at least with mine, you need a overflow tube into a bucket. Also the bashsea can go internal or external depending on your sump size or need.

It was a MRC 2 with dual becketts. I don't think anything has changed with regard to design or power consumption with this type of skimmer, so no, I doubt I'd ever use one again.

I agree. Generally, I haven't seen becketts with very large cups, so a waste collector is highly recommended.

I have an Aero Foamer, been rocking it for over 10 years. Why I went with it was I got it second hand for about $100 in coral, I was looking at a new one at the time too so it worked out great for me. I have a mag 24 power hog running it but being in the Midwest I do t have the same concerns about power cost. I won't run it for ever as I am building a large skimmer that will have a dart needle wheel. They work great when tuned in, but you have to stay on top of the injector to ensure its clean or performance drops fast. While I love what this thing has done for me over the years, it's very well built, I wouldn't buy one new, I do t think. While power consumption doesn't top my list it's becoming an area where if I can pay com ed less it would be nice. Also bang for your buck seems like if looking at New the needle wheels with varying speed pumps are a better buy.
