I'm debating if I should be added one in my basement, possible locations would be right next to tank - may overwork forcing ATO to constantly run or near my basement sump.

I used to have one in our basement bc it was a 6ft tank and mold was likely for the area we live in. They do work effectively against a tank but it’s kinda counterintuitive too lol

My biggest thing is if you can find a dehumidifier that can safely collect water without leaching toxic chemicals into it so you could just readminister into the ATO. If you find one lmk!

I do exactly this with the dehumidifier being a few feet away from the sump crock so it drains into the crock. I would run one tho even if my tank sump wasn't in the basement or else it gets musty down there.

That's why I want to run one, as I just finished the basement and you can tell with insulation and drywall some added humidity for sure.

I just don't know if I want it next to my tank or across the room

If you have good circulation it’s not going to matter. You may want to keep it a few feet away just so you don’t heat up the tank. Set for something like 50%RH you will not really notice that much more top off being used. If you go nuts and set it for something like 20% that’s a different story.

I put mine close to the tank sump because it's close to my sump crock and I was able to just connect a hose to the dehumidifier. My basement is unfinished so appearance is not an issue. Are you planning to drain into a sump crock? If so maybe use a garden hose as a drain temporarily and experiment with placement before permanently plumbing the drain?

I have two options to hook directly into my sump pit. I'm gonna try to setup one opposing end of basement from fish tank. Won't be much plumbing just dumping into local drain
