Whos got a AI Nero 5 Powerhead?

Does anyone knows if this NERO 5 can be attached to a WB 220.6 with 3/4 inch glass? Will it hold? Bigger magnet needed? Screen guard a must?

Thank you all in advance for your feedback
3/4" glass or acrylic... absolutely not. I have half inch glass and it barely holds on. And I mean barely. An extra 1/4" thicker and theres no way itll hold! Theres TONS of threads and posts on the site about the magnets being way too weak. And AI so far has no intentions of making it better or stronger. Only thing you can really do(this is what I did) put a dab of glue(cyanoacrylate gel) on the wet side magnet to the glass. Thatll hold it along with the weak magnet from the dry side. It's worked for me. Not sure how well itll work on 3/4" but I'd think the glue would do most of the heavy work.

I believe that the Nero 5 is rated for only 1/2" of glass.
It is but is stable on my 3/4" glass. As I said. . . any thicker. . . likely wont work. Youd think Ai being aware of this would produce a thicker magnet and boost their sales ???

Youd think. But that would be too easy.

What size is your tank?

And I'm really surprised it holds on yours. I have 13mm glass, which is slightly larger than 1/2" (about half a mm) 3/4" is the equivalent to 19mm. And a 1/4" thicker than my glass is. That's a huge difference..

Mine is 15mm - Just measured

Other "knockoff" brands have figured it out. Coralbox, jebao and reefbreeders all have stronger magnets. Only difference is no app control. Personally I'm fine with that. For 400 bucks I can get 2 reefbreeders RP-m and a battery backup. 18 month US warranty

I believe they have upgraded the magnets on these, to accomodate glass up to 16 mm or .625" thick. This is per a promo email I got from Premium Aquatics. Did anyone else see this? That's the only place I've seen it mentioned though.

I'd like to pick up a couple possibly but my glass is 1/2" thick and I've been skeptical if they'd work well. Maybe if the magnets really are stronger now I'll jump.

Looks like they increased it by 3mm. Check out the earlier vs current specs from their site.

I bought 2 Nero 2, if i put the pulse mode and anti sync (180º phase) the current flow from the 2 pumps are correct (different flow from the pump "left" and the pump "right") if is in random and anti sync (180º phase) the flow is the same from the left pump and right... is normal?

Thanks

Just purchased 2 of these and seems like it's a bug in software. Didn't know about it until I couldn't get anti-sync to work properly in Random mode.

I have the Nero 5 Child set with 100% speed, 180 phase and it just mimics the parent speed on random. I've tried all sorts of different phase settings. The Anti-Sync isn't really anti-sync. Form factor is great but this is rather disappointing. I'll probably just go back to EcoTech MPs if I can't get this to work.

Hey, with everyone on here running the Nero 5’s: would 1 on each side be adequate in a 180 gallon tank 6ft? Debating between the Nero 5’s and the mp40’s. I’d prefer the Nero 5’s especially cause the price difference but want to make sure it’s enough for a 6ft 180g tank. Doing mixed reef with some sps.

I do . It may be just enough but im thinking you may want to add a gyre pump on the back wall in the center to get than water action in tune

Hi all - I have the 425 which apparently is 10mm thick the glass.. Is this good for the 5s? any more current updates about this powerhead? I really am seeing the mp40 as expensive and un justified... so looking at the next best thing

My glass at 1/2” holds it just fine

Do you have experience
with the mp40 so you can compare it? Should i bite the bullet and go for an mp40 or is this model just as good?

Mp40 will have more power

So I need to start replacing my RW-8's as they are failing after 3-5yrs of service (not complaining as they are LOW $$).

I need a "in tank" powerhead as I dont have any space around the outside of the tank to do a MP (dry side).

The new AI Nero 5 looks promising and relatively compact. I should be able to go from 4x RW-8 to 2x Nero's.

Anyone have these in tank yet?

I have four, and love them.
