Who's got a glass cages tank?

Tell me what you think of your custom glass cages tank. Quality of the tank on a scale of 1-10. 10 being the best. What could be better on the tank? How old is the tank and has it held up pretty nicely? Would you buy another one? Reasonable price?

Just trying to decide whether I should get a custom tank made by them or just buy a regular Marineland tank. Thanks!

I had a frag tank they built for me. Quality and service all were great. A friend of mine has it now. She is using it as a nursery for baby rock anemones.

Check out custom aquariums. I was considering them as they are very helpful and have great customization and price and ship to door. However, I decided to go with Coast to coast as I was able to save on shipping. Glasscage I would have spend a lot of money on shipping only to have to go to there pickup zone over 2 hours, yikes.

Glass cages is local to me so I would eliminate the cost of shipping by just going and picking it up.

If I recall, they use to have like one day a week where they were open to the public. If they still do this you could drop by and see what kind of quality they offer.

Thats not a bad idea. The only thing I hear about them is that there silicone seams are sloppy. That's why I want to hear from others with there tanks to see if they have held up okay.

75 gallon 48x18x20. Not a gigantic tank by no means.

I think you'll be fine with GC. Just let them know you plan on having SPS and need strong seems so hopefully they take the build more seriously. Many times the tank manufacture will size the glass thickness based on price point what someone would pay. They won't take into consideration the animals you will keep or the flow that we now use. This holds true with particle board stands. controllable pumps put tons of force on the glass. My old 55 gallon perfecto tank center bracing snapped after 5 years of use (back in 2008). I was filling the tank up and it snapped and the glass bowed at least 1" on both sides. Luckly this happened when I was setting up. when I priced out my rimless tank 42X26wX24 - with custom aquariums, they said the thickness they planned on using was 3/8".. This is not sufficient for a tank of this size so I asked to upgrade the panel size. I reputable dealer would only use 3/4" glass for this size rimless so i endedup going for eurobraced with CTC aquariums. For your tank make sure the glass is at least 3/8 that way you won't have to worry about it failing after X amount of years.

I just got a 48 x 30 x 20 black seams rimless couldn't be happier. Time will tell on the rest I guess.

My frag tank is from them 50ish gallons 36 x 20 x 18 extremely well built and very solid very heavy tank. I've had it for 2 years and bought it used.

Yea that's a good idea. I was trying to think of a way of telling them to make the seams better by not saying it directly. Also if the glass is tempered, can't the glass thickness be less? Or is 3/4 with tempered glass?

Adam just built all his BC tanks from them and he stated always had a positive experience. I've had up to a 7 foot done for two years and a couple acro quarantine tanks 60x36 all holding up well. definitely not the tank for a display unless you value price over aesthetics. seams are sloppy with stringy bits here and there. these guys are cranking hundreds of tanks a day. cost savings for most is where they are at.

the 3/4" glass was for Rimless tank only. For euro-braced I was told 1/2". If you have the space which i am sure have few more inches try going with a 90gallon The life support on a 75gallon -will be the same on a 90gallon/120gallon. If your not planning on having ultra clear glass, going rimless, or need specific dimensions - Purchase this 90gallon for $312 shipped, just make sure the glass is at least .3" minimum if not more.
