Having decided to make a monster and looking at kit I’m starting to struggle. DT turnover - 1800g, say medium run 30x volume - 54k g/hr? what pump can handle that? I was thinking 4 pumps would do me but I can’t seem to find anything suitable. Having 54 Eheim 5000 isn’t practical not to mention the cost. Electing for no power heads in the tank don’t like them there. Preference for inlets is for 15mm bulkheads and i’m scoping 36 in all and 3 X 63mm overflow outlets. Any suggestions folks?

You could do reeflo's or the new MRC pumps. If you are concerned about energy savings, than powerheads are your go to. No matter the pump, its going to suck more power running a return pump or even closed loop to generate flow.

If you don’t like power heads, why not go with something low profile and no cords in tank like and mp60. You’ll either have to compromise cost or aesthetic based on your criteria.

I haven't used them myself but have heard good things about the Abyzz pumps for moving a lot of water.
They also do a beast of a pump afc400 58,000 g/hr. usd rrp is 8.5k. Can’t locate another list price presently.

My main issue is inability to put an in tank affair out of sight will have 360 visibility save corners with a bit of dry wall but minimal just to hide the bulkheads and related plumbing and the door frame. The mp60’s retail over for for about £650 flow 7.5k g/hr

How big is this tank? 54k gph. Dude that is 10 hammerheads running full boar. You do NOT need 30x turnover if you are doing things correctly.
1800g. Unless I’ve misunderstood turnover volumes of x 30 DT volume? Been away from this game for 18 yrs and never had a beast of a tank b4. So learning afresh.

most people would recommend 10x max, people like sanjay would say you do much less for contact time, and get you flow from powerheads. Flow will also heavily depend on what you intend to grow/have. I don't believe you shared that with us.

Mixed Reef sps, lps and livestock. So many varying opinions on turnover of DT. It gets confusing. X10 seems to be suggested for low stock. My tank will be an up and over door affair 2 columns 1000x800x2700, and an over door bridge 1000x800x600. Planning to have 36 15mm inlets and 3 x 63mm overflows.

inlets will be configured -bulkhead fittings - 2 panels with 10 holes each - 5 each L/R sides at spacing from base 600, 1200, 1800, 2100, 2500; 2 panels with 8 holes in each - 4 each side L/R sides at spacing from base 300, 900, 1500, 2000)

I would watch a lot of Bulk Reef Supply videos on youtube, which will give you a better understanding of the hobby today, and hire someone trusted like WWC or tidal gardens to help with build and planning. This is something that has so many things that I most will not think of because they don't deal with these aquariums ever.

Yes BRS are great. Watched loads of their content. I did email them but they bounced me on account they only do 110v and suggested I approach someone local or seek some design advice as you say. I’m in UK

Tidal look impressive

Closed loop is where it is at for the big tanks. People suggesting powerheads think there 120g is a big tank. 1800 gallons, that is a serious endeavor my friend.

There is one brand to look at for the really big tanks and that is penta ray.
