I have a large bird of paradise colony, tubs birdsnest, and a standard pink colony- all turd brown. Polyps are huge and the sps that surround them are all colored normally. The only nest that I can keep color with is the ponape.

What are all your water params? What kind of lights do you have and where are the corals situated?

My .02 on birdsnest is if your lights are getting old or the coral is Ti low they will not hold color. Also one of the first to brown if water params are out of whack.

where do you have the ponape?

From what I've seen.. ponape love lights... too low and it starts to get a greenish / brown base. But if it's just right then tip is purple with a very light yellowish base

Params: ph 8.0 alk 9 no3 2-4 po4 0 ca 440 mag 1450

The bird of paradise is sitting right next to a fully colored ponape torch stag and the tubbs is next to a thriving red planet, so I dont see how it could be light deprivation.

The red planets usually like medium lighting, so how far from the light do you have these? I think that would be a better question, also what type of lighting are you using??

LED spots. I forgot to mention that I have a pink lemonade colony next to the pink(brown) nest.

Do seriatopora require higher light than most acros? Man I've been wrong this whole time.

well, i wonder it has something to do with the leds...i am convinced that some corals just don't do well with them (color wise)

That must be it. Don't get me wrong, they are growing fast and are bushy with polyp extension, just poo colored. :)

shoot I misread your post ><!! I thought you said you cant keep color in ponape..

Any pictures of your birdsnest? I found that my bird of paradise like low light.. It was brown when I was giving it too much light (not intense... just like 200-300 par)

I moved it to the side of the tank and it colored up

Just an update...I've managed to get some of the color back in the pink and bird of paradise. I had a faulty ph test kit and my ph was closer to 7.7-7.8. A few week of good water changes and topping off with a little kalk has brought the ph back up to 8.1. Hopefully they continue to color up.
