Does anyone know what may be causing this?

Oh man – looks like I am not the only one. I have a similar problem and I was just told that this is an infestation of dinoflagellates.
I am battling this now.

Yea this is a small 15 I set up as a qt. never had this in 2 year with my 75 so I was like what the heck.

Yes – definitely not awesome. I have a 30 gallon that has been up and running for one year. I came home for a quick vacation and found this everywhere – I'm afraid I'm actually losing a few corals- it's very sad

Two things I know of. First is dino. Second is air leaking into return from the sump. Do you see tiny air bubbles in your water coming out of the return?

If you have an airleak on the pump, try resealing it or replacing the tube. Or try to prevent bubbles from getting into the water that reaches the pump.

Looks like dino to me though. But that is a heck of a lot of bubbles. Do you have a wavemaker? Waterflow prevents them from sticking around, and they float to surface and out of tank.

Tank been up since November. No sump just 15 gallon qt with mechanical filter/skimmer. Two power heads for circulation. Bubbles showed up a week ago.

You can get bubbles forming on algae. The bubbles are oxygen produced during photosynthesis. I have not seen anything as extreme as what you show there. But if you have a lush algal growth, enough light, and nutrients, it could happen.

A tang in a 15g? It's dinos, find the cause, if a qt keep the lights off a few days
Its a qt he can pull his tang from the main i don't know anyone who dose not have at least one tang .. then put it back in display ... no lights sure ... But if you kill it all the alge with no lights seemes like it might throw off the chemistry a little....am I wrong honestly I don't know not trying to be smart or anything ...

I run no lights to kill algae - got too deprieve either light or nutrients and light is easier if there are no sps. LPs and softies will be fine for a few days.

have you considered a small reboot? dip the rock in a peroxide solution and scrub and rinse well. clearly there's not good filtration or funky rock to begin with.
If you used meds in the tank you may have some killing or killed the good stuff in the tank and creating the funk source.
My remora was pretty much junk. 3 bad skimmers and im done with those on nanos. honestly never had a prob with an aquaclear with tanks under 30 gal.

Nicely done. I'd do a big water change now - make sure there is minimal remaining nutrients.
