Why can't I grow Acro's

Your lfs has an sps 40 gallon cube with a single hydra 26 hd?

So, @reefwiser, do you think that going back to the dosing amount that had my corals looking their best is tilting at windmills? I will be reducing the amount by almost 50%, and if it is Alk burn, shouldn't that help?

I am also keeping everyone else's suggestions in mind, but I only want to change one thing at a time so I don't mess anything else up. I've found changing too many things at once rarely solves the problem and only left me more confused about what I needed to change.

Take things slow is the best way. I dose phosphate and nitrate at times.

I would maybe start with not doing a water change every week for a month and see how your corals do. Check your alk reading and see if you are having to dose more to maintain say 8.1 dkh.
Keep at eye on your readings and see if you can slowly keep the tank stable. I know you have LED’s a good mapping of the light spread in your tank would help you get a handle on how to place the corals when you add them.
Just start slowly. Moving in a forward direction is your best path forward. You will learn a lot about husbandry of a reef tank with a small volume of water. [emoji3]

How many watts is your ai setting during its peak time?

I'm using one AI Hydra 26HD. The Acro is 9" below the waterline and the light is 9" above the waterline.

lower light intensity and do water changes and/or add Red sea PO4 (same as vodka dosing to reduce Po4)

How about the Magnesium level? seems no one asked or mentioned.

I get my RO/DI water as well as my salt water from my LFS. It reads 0 TDS.

I have reduced the amount of NoPoX already, and will slowly try to wean my tank off of it.

I've looked around locally for a PAR meter with no luck. My LFS uses the same light setting on their Hydra 26 with the same tank and have great Acro growth in their tank.

Hi IslandLifereef,
I do have a par meter and I’m in San Jose.
If you’re nearby I can lend you mine!

Thanks! Would you consider 2800 miles close LOL. I could probably get a business trip to pick it up and drop it off, but it might take a while in between. I do appreciate the offer.

Tony Rogers tank is way bigger and deeper.
Btw I checked the par using your settings with my 2 hydra 52s turned down to 100 watts, meaning 50 watts per fixture. Par at 9” below the surface was about 125-150.

Thanks for taking the time to get a PAR reading.

I’ll post the schedule when I get home tonight. I don’t recommend changing the schedule all at once. Do it very slow if you have any healthy acros.

When I try to upload the file from Dropbox an error message pops stating that the file doesn’t have an allowed extension. Anyone know why?
