Why can't I quarantine wrasses?

Just found my leopard wrasse dead in my QT. This was day 3. I use TTM. I use TTM for all my fishes but I seem to only have problems with wrasses. I have lost a melanurus, yellow coris, and now a leopard. All died within a few days. I float the bag and the salinity in the QT is matched to the bag. Anybody have luck doing TTM with wrasses? Should I switch to using a cycled tank and quaranting for 76 days?

They are sand sleeping wrasses, and as such dive to the sand when stressed. They more then likely died from stress.

Next time put a tupperware container of sand in with them, and switch it out when switching tanks for TTM.

Side question. Do I even need a wrasse? Reason why I want one is for pest control? Will another fish do the same job?

Forgot to mention that there was a dish with sand in it. He swam around the first day and slept in the sand the entire 2nd day.

Depends on the pest. What are you looking to get rid of? Most of the live pest control options are all pretty delicate either way though. Except for maybe Sixline Wrasse. They are pretty tough but they are just mean as they get older and only ok at pest control.

Any meds given?

I've found over the years some wrasses don't take well to certain meds.
Nope no meds. I couldn't imagine it being ammonia either. My QT is 10gal and they have died on the 2nd and 3rd days of being in the QT. Also as a paranoia step, I add prime on the 2nd night.

Yeah I won't get a six line. I don't have any pests so just planning ahead.

I just moved from a 32 biocube DT to a new 75 gal. Maybe I'll keep that biocube up and running and use it to quarantine the next wrasse. Just sucks having to do it for 76 days.

Just an FYI....

Leopards are some of the harder wrasses to even keep.

Melanarus, and yellow coris hard pretty hardy. You might just have had sick fish when bought? Hard to say really.

Describe your TTM protocol.

Well like I've said, none of them survived til the 1st transfer so TTM seems pretty irrelevant? But I normally use the hybrid method where I'm also giving them hydrogen peroxide bathes. Only difference I can see with TTM is that I'm using freshly mixed saltwater vs a traditional cycled QT.

I meant your TTM tanks. What do you have them setup?

Never did the hybrid method, so not sure if the peroxide is maybe causing issues?
10 gal. PVC elbows. Bubbler. Sand in a small container. Lid. Hydrogen peroxide is also irrelevant since they never made it to the 1st 72 hour transfer mark.

FYI on hybrid TTM.
