I’m sure some of the reasons are obvious but what made you drawn to having a frag tank? Or what was your initial reasons for it and current revised reasons behind it?

Main reason people have frags tanks is to make money.
I'm currently setting up a frag tank to quarantine all my new corals

im gonna frag anyway, might as well make a few bucks.
I sell fairly cheap so my local guys get a good price on some nice coral, and I get some cash for supplies.
Having a frag tank allows for more fragging and gets all the frags out of my tank. It also allows for growout. And finally, it allows for acclimation of new frags.

I am planning one because it's easier to manage and move things around. I don't want things encrusting on rock yet since I will move soon.

Not sure how to answer. The first time I had a frag tank it was definitely to sell frags. Then I started a family and was working overtime, etc. and got rid of the frag tank(s) (yes, one turned into 2). A few years later I moved up to a larger display tank and now have more free time, so my corals are doing better than ever and I needed extra room to put stuff. I was at a point where I had 100+ frags in my display and it just ruins the look of the display. Now I don't know what to think. I basically have to keep trimming to keep everything happy, so now I started a second frag tank (again) to accommodate the frags. So I guess I'm back where I started only this time it isn't my "intention" to do it for the money. lol.

I almost setup one a couple of time through the years due to feeling guilty throwing out coral that was growing to big for the tank. The wife and I just resorted to putting out a notice and contacting fellow reefers we would be having a coral trimming party. Never had an issue with folks swinging by for a fresh clipping. By the end of the day, our tank would be back to normal ops.

See that is my issue I’m not sure which reason is mine and I’m contemplating why to or not.

Selling frags bcuz obviously maintenance isn’t a large cost but the need and battle to constantly want newer and better things drives the cost quickly.

Frags and frag racks in the DT is obviously an eye sore and liability with some tank mates being small.

If I were to start one it would be for 3 reasons, one being to quarantine new corals, two to handle over growth of any existing coral and three to sell off my frags to save/trade up for high end pieces we drool over in pics but cant outright afford. Or atleast thats what I'd do if my wife would let me have more tank space in the house....
