We all have reef tanks for various reasons. Reefing means something different to everyone it seems.

For myself, I can come home from a stressful day and enjoy the tanks (most of the time! :grinning-squinting-face:). I have a daily routine that keeps me centered and calm. Watching everything moving around and taking care of them is relaxing for me. I was wondering, what does reefing do for you?

1. To see how many years I can keep my pico reef alive
2. To enact changes in other people's reefs through online work threads (posts where people ask for tank help) using science discerned by hundreds of jobs that came before them. I take the distilled techniques we practice in other people's reefs and use them at home to further the lifespan of my own reef. Discoveries made that extend the lifespan of my old pico reef vase are pumped out back into the work threads for honing/ over and over for twenty years online.

personally, it is one of my positive coping skills/de-stressor's coming home from work.

it also is a conversation starter as well as room filler(in the sense where the tank has a purpose to attract/inspire) rather than just holding space like a table.

If you love the ocean and diving as I do, you quickly appreciate a piece of the ocean in your home

I do it purely for my own enjoyment. The aquarium is 100% mine...it's the one thing I have that I don't have to share with any of my family members...and after a long day of work, it's relaxing to be able to sit in front of the tank and zone out for a bit while looking at something I truly enjoy.

Part hedonism , part crazy scientist.
I love the fact that we try to emulate one of the more complex ecosystems in a glass box. Fulfilling the organisms needs require a lot of research and work . Is fascinating the variety , complexity of interactions . Chemistry , biology , physics , a bit of luck that end on our aquariums. It relaxes me and challenges me every day. Is an addiction. I like the fact that people from all ways of life can contribute in to a common knowledge ( not always right) and that there is very fine line between a hobby , aquaculture and science here. Some see the animals as pets , some as pieces of jewerly , for me is pure joy to be able to sustain marine life on our houses and make them thrive (in ocassions).

I relate completely. I have three teenage daughters and a wife. My Reef Cave is my escape after working all day, and coming home to the daily drama. (No offense to the ladies, but they know what I mean.) :grinning-face-with-sweat:

Now that I'm retired, I do it because I can put in the time and effort to be successful and watch the reef thrive. I reef because I enjoy every aspect of such a rewarding hobby.
