Heyo,
90g softy/LPS
4 test frag of frogspawn officially dead. I've been housing LPS for about 4 months (total, ever) and am having great success with elegance, Duncans, chalice, favia, lepto, etc. which is great and really gratifying but frogspawn will simply not hang on.
Parameters:
1.025 salinity
411 calcium
0.30 Phos4
0.2 No3
9 DKH
8.1 pH

2 x Kessil 360x at 60%, 13 hours

Please see photos.

I do have an aptasia eating filefish that I caught nipping at the polyps of one last week but I guess I'm not clear as to how frequently or aggressively he does this (I'm not married to the fish so will rehome if he's the culprit) and whether or not need outright kill the darn things.

I've had the frogspawn all different parts of my tank, high/low/mid, edge/center, low flow/mid-flow/high flow.
I've heard from several different sources that frogspawn should be relatively accommodating for different light/flow conditions and adapt as well as an Elegance or Duncan to an extent but with my 4th frag down I'm thinking it's either that darn filefish or I'm overlooking something (?) while all of my other LPS are just fine, even thriving.
Any input is most certainly appreciated.
I really like all the euphyllia family but am apprehensive to keep trying frag after frag until I unriddle this a bit further.

im dealing with the same issue, perfect paramters but frogspawns hate my tank. Its just the certain orange kind. the green ones do well

It could be the filefish. I caught my melanarus wrasse eating the polyps of both my elegance corals (not sure if this was retribution or a new fetish), so I'm finding I just can't have certain corals in my tank (elegance and acans so far).

It's very possible it's the filefish. I had a green filefish who developed a taste for my cynarina. I think they like the really fleshy stuff. Also, how stable has your alk been? In my experience fimbriaphyllia and euphyllia are quite a bit more sensitive to alk fluctuations.

I have a nice hammer I put in my display tank and my aiptasia-eating filefish started picking at it within days. It closed up completely. I put the hammer back in my frag tank and it's opening back up but it's taken a couple of weeks to recover.

As others mentioned, I would check your magnesium level. Also, your phosphates are quite high and your nitrates quite low, I don’t think either would kill a frogspawn over night, but can lead to long term tissue recession.

Thats one of the corals Ive struggled with for years. I got a pink one at a club frag swap in October, and its still ok so far. As far as Mg, i know thats not an issue for me. Ive kept my tanks close to 1500 for several years. Ive seen articles on a specific bacterial strain, that if you have it in your tank, it will cause that brown jelly, but im not sure how you would identify that. The microbiome testing is still in its infancy, so i dont think that is any help at this point

Mag levels! I would also keep salinity at 1.026
1.025 is fine for lps. Look on Red Seas recipies for salinity, plus, salinity varies in the ocean widely. From 1.023 to 1.030 in the Red Sea. Stability is more important in a tank than weather you use 1.026 vs 1.025

Well, to those who've responded, I thank you.
I FINALLY caught the ******* filefish today after losing an entire zoa colony and several other zoa frags, he was gratefully accepted at my LFS in exchange for a really nice green/purple(gray) BTA. I've been slowly creeping up my mag so I can keep it within range and stable but I'm nearly 100% that the problem originated from the filefish though I'm expecting to still encounter some challenges mostly due to lots of professional travel and lack of automation with my tank.

I'm hoping to share some beautiful photos of rapidly maturing euphyllia here after we give it another go.
Fingers crossed, thanks folks!
