Why does my UV Sterilizer build up air bubbles?

I have this UV Sterilizer in my 40 Breeder:


I've been having an issue for months where it slowly builds up air in it, which then shoots out as micro bubbles. When I turn it off after it's been running for a few hours, tons of air bubbles gurgle out of it.

The air intake is well below the water line, so that shouldn't be the issue.

Anyone know what might be going on? Is the heat from the bulb somehow making air build up in the housing? Like a pot of water boiling?

I would guess it has to do with how the goes into the device. If it enters from the top it leaves an air pocket up there. It is best to enter from the bottom and exit the top.

Thanks for the reply. It does pull from the bottom, and output from the top. This issue makes no sense to me haha

It is puling from the top near the surface of the water which creates lower pressure in the housing. The combination of low pressure and the heat from the UV is probably causing air to come out of solution. About the only thing you can do is set it deeper in the tank to increase the pressure.
