Why does my water have a musty smell?

I just started using rowa gfo in my tank about 3 weeks ago and the last couple of weeks. I am starting to smell the water. I am using it in a media sock in between two layers of filter media. Could this be why I am smelling a musty smell in my water?

My opinion is the smell has noting to with the gfo. Do you test for phosphate to see if the gfo did it's job? Do you have filter sox or cloth? Is your skimmer overfilled? Do you have a dead fish hiding somewhere? Anything else die recently ie clam coral etc? These are more likely smelly thing.

I have the gfo in a filter sock in between filter media. My skimmer is kept clean pretty much all the time and didn't notice anything missing as for as dead fish and no clams.

Not sure what could be causing the smell, bu if params are good nothing is missing I would run some carbon.

Use activated carbon in a reactor (not in a sock), this will take out the smell, believe me. I always know when to replace my carbon by the smell.

I agree that using GAC will help.

People more often describe their RO/DI water as getting a musty smell rather than the tank itself.

Everything in the tank looks normal?
