The firefish in the tank I set up at my school jumped out and died today but the thing is, there is a lid on the tank. How is the firefish supposed to jump out with a lid on the tank??? There are no holes or gaps in the lid and I have no idea what to do any more :(

I'm sorry to hear this! :(

What is the lid made out of? Is it a light weight material? If so, you may need to weight it down so it doesn't rise when a jumping fish hits it.

I swear some fish just want to escape. I had a tank that I was traveling with and it was secured with wrap on the top. Only a tiny hole for an airline that was sealed around it. Still got out. It had to really work at it. Sorry for your lose. We all have been there.

The lid is made from the BRS lid making kit. The lid couldn't have risen up because it is in pretty tight. When I found the firefish, the lid was still secure on the top of they tank

This firefish had jumped out about 3 times before this for no reason but every other time I found him before he died. There isn't anyone in the school. I don't know what could have spooked him :(

Hmmm, tank . . . school . . . lid . . . fish still jumps out. Schools have kids . . . kids do things like take lid off and look at fish.
Well, my school is on Christmas break so no one is at school right nos

My only guess is that the firefish managed to fit through the mesh holes in the lid. I thought the firefish was too big to do this but I could be wrong.

I've had a few Houdini firefish over the years. Sounds like he made it through the mesh squares. It also sounds like he was a frequent thrill seeker... adrenaline junky.
The mesh squares are only 1/4" (I think) but that is the only thing I can think of.
